We feel passionately about giving back to communities in India and Sri Lanka and feel strongly about promoting responsible tourism. We actively encourage our travellers to get involved with social enterprises and other NGO initiatives during their journeys as we feel it is important that tourist money has a direct impact with the people that need it most. Alongside this, we have committed to supporting a number of charities and projects across both countries, where a donation from each booked itinerary will go directly to one of the below causes.
I-India, is a non-profit organisation that reaches over 3000 street children daily through their street schools, shelter homes and their vocational program called 'Ladli'. The organisation assists children and communities with immediate challenges, such as homelessness, child labor, malnutrition and assault. Alongside this they help adults and children with practical skills to help them to transform their futures.
I-India have been committed to helping with the humanitarian crisis in India which has been a result of the covid-19 pandemic. During their relief programme, they have undertaken activities such as food distribution, handing out sanitisation kits and making PPE. Despite the lockdown, I-India have also been operating a toll-free emergency line for children in need.
Our team in Colombo work by identifying communities in rural Sri Lanka that need social or economic support, with a particular focus on children who are in need. Our team work on small projects across the country by helping finance educational and school related projects. Previous donations to our office in Colombo has helped to go towards projects such as construction of playgrounds and children's parks, distribution of stationary and musical equipment and essential renovations of rural schools. This programme is known as the 'connect initiative'.
At present, each of our confirmed Sri Lanka itineraries will have a donation included which will go towards the sponsorship of a child to enable them to have a year of academic education. Should our travellers wish to, we will arrange a visit to the school to meet with their sponsored child.
